Add Extra Gloss and Protection to your Vehicle

What is a Ceramic Coating?

There was a time when paste wax was the go-to choice for boosting your vehicle’s shine and protecting the paint from elements like rain, bird droppings, dirt, and more.

Fast forward 20 years, and thanks to a lot of scientific innovation, we now have a far more durable and advanced form of protection: Ceramic Coatings.

Unlike the old-school “wax on – wax off” method, ceramic coating is a semi-permanent liquid layer that bonds to your vehicle’s surface. It’s often called a “sacrificial layer” because it takes the brunt of the elements—rain, dirt, snow—while keeping the paint underneath safe and protected.

To put it simply: Wax is like shelter made of wood, while Ceramic Coating is like a house made of brick. Both provide protection from rain and dust, but one is way stronger and more reliable than the other.

The Benefits of a Ceramic Coating

There are plenty of coating companies out there making big promises about what their products can do. While there’s some truth to those claims, I prefer to be upfront about what you can actually expect from a ceramic coating.

Here’s what you really get with a quality coating:

Long-lasting protection: A durable layer that lasts 3 to 6 years.

One-time application: Unlike other forms of protection that need reapplication every few months, a ceramic coating only needs to be applied once.

Unmatched gloss: It creates a deep, rich shine that far surpasses wax or sealant.

Hydrophobic properties: Keeps your car cleaner and makes washing it easier by repelling water, dirt, and grime.

Versatility: Can be applied to paint, glass, wheels, vinyl film, and paint protection film.

Before we apply the coating, your vehicle must be properly prepped and corrected with one of our paint correction services. Without this crucial step, you won’t get the full benefits of the coating.

This is where a professional installer makes all the difference. If the coating isn’t applied correctly, you’ll end up with what are called **”high spots”**—smudges or streaks that appear when the coating is left to dry too long without being wiped off.

As a general rule, the more durable the coating (like a 1-year vs. a 9-year coating), the harder it is to install. Weather plays a big factor, and here in the Central Valley, we know just how hot those summer days can get, which can make the installation process trickier. So, proper timing and conditions are key for a flawless finish.

Common Myths About Ceramic Coatings

Yes, ceramic coatings are long-lasting and durable, but that doesn’t mean they make your vehicle invincible. There are some important limitations to understand about what a coating can and can’t handle.

Too often, we see customers overestimate the protection and then get disappointed when they notice swirls or etchings in the paint. The coating won’t make your paint scratch-proof. When we say it helps resist light swirls and scratches, we’re talking about the very light scratches that might occur during proper washing or drying.

But if you drag a dry, dirty wash mitt across the paint, or brush your hand or leg against it, you’re still going to scratch the paint.

Additionally, the coating won’t protect your paint from rock chips. For that level of protection, you’ll need paint protection film (PPF). No matter how many layers of wax or ceramic coating you apply, they won’t prevent the impact of a rock hitting your vehicle.

To get the most out of your ceramic coating, maintenance is key. Just like anything else, if you don’t take care of it, the coating will degrade over time and won’t last as long as it’s supposed to. You need to properly wash, dry, and occasionally “boost” the coating to keep it in top condition. A coating that’s supposed to last 6 years might start to break down in 3 if it’s not properly maintained.

Ceramic Coating FAQ's

Do you have a shop?

No, we are a fully mobile unit, and we bring everything needed to perform a ceramic coating right to you. Depending on the level of work required, the process can take 2-3 days to complete.

Is ceramic coating the best type of protection for my paint?

Ceramic coatings offer excellent protection and a great shine, but if you’re looking for the ultimate defense for your vehicle, paint protection film (PPF) is the way to go. It provides a thicker, more durable layer of protection against rock chips, scratches, and other potential damage.

Can I wash my car after the coating is installed?Once the ceramic coating is applied, it’s important that the vehicle stays dry for the first 48 hours to allow the coating to fully cure and bond to the paint. After that, we recommend waiting at least two weeks before washing your vehicle. As part of our service, your first wash is on us, so we can check how the coating is performing and make sure everything is holding up as it should.

Can the ceramic coating replace my clear coat?

If your paint is chipping or fading due to clear coat failure, the only solution is to have the vehicle repainted. Unfortunately, a ceramic coating won’t be able to fix or improve damaged paint caused by clear coat issues.

Can I just get the coating installed without the prep work or paint correction?

We do not apply ceramic coatings to vehicles that haven’t gone through the proper prep and paint correction process. Without this essential step, you won’t get the full benefits of the coating, and the results won’t last as long or perform as effectively.
